Judy Clarke is an animal artist, working mainly in pastel and pencil medium. She has worked as a professional animal artist since 1987. Commissions originate throughout the south of England, but also from around the world including Europe, America, South Africa and Australia.
In most cases travelling out to see the animals in their own environment is an important start to the commission. While travelling to see clients, examples of past work either in the form of portfolio photographs and / or completed portfolio portraits with suitable content are taken. Part of the cost of a commission includes the frame and mounts, so examples of these can be seen, advice on shape size and the content of the portrait is also discussed at this stage.
The clients wishes for the finished piece of work is paramount everything is custom made, and creative ideas other than those already seen in the portfolios can be included i.e. unusual backgrounds / foregrounds, or different subject matter included on the pencil drawings.
Photographs are taken of the animal / animals if necessary
for the commission, and liaison between the client and Judy is continued step-
Commissions may take from several weeks to a few months to complete. This will depend upon the number of clients awaiting portraits, and the complexity of the commission.
A lot of effort is taken to select the ideal materials for the work and precision on each portrait is of great importance.
All commissions are original pieces of work. There are no prints made from the commissions of pets by the artist Judy Clarke. Therefore, this will be reflected in the price.
